Drama Korea The Legend Of The Blue Sea menceritakan tentang seorang putri duyung dari zaman Joseon bernama Shim Chung (Jeon Ji Hyeon) yang tiba-tiba berada pada zaman modern. Shim Chung kemudian ditemukan oleh Heo Joon Jae (Lee Min Ho) yang merupakan doppelganger dari Kim Moo, putra seorang bangsawan dari zaman Joseon. Heo Joon Jae bekerja dengan Jo Nam Doo (Lee Hee Joon), seorang yang mengajari Joon Jae menjadi penipu jenius. Joon Jae juga memiliki teman bernama Cha Shi Ah (Shin Hye Sun) yang bekerja sebagai peneliti di KAIST.
